I found a machine (ntp.san.rr.com) that is an alias for ops.san.rr.com

Is this ntp server available for customer ntp time sync?

If so, what version of ntp and what stratum is the server?

If not, is there a RR run/maintained ntp server on the local network I
could sync to?

I am a business class user if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

er, would you trust TW/AOL to know what time it is?

I think it used to work, but now it doesn't respond with ntpdate. I tried
NTP versions 1, 2, and 3.

$ ntpdate -q ntp.san.rr.com
server 24.25.195.5, stratum 0, offset 0.000000, delay 0.00000
8 Jul 21:35:45 ntpdate[3089]: no server suitable for synchronization found

I had the same response. I use us.pool.ntp.org for synchronization which is
a DNS round robin for public ntp servers. If you want more than 1 server,
you can use 0.us.pool.ntp.org, 1.us.pool.ntp.org and 2.us.pool.ntp.org which
will return 3 different groups of servers.

I've found that most of the servers there are Stratum 2 servers. More
information about the pooling project can be found here:

Yep, currently my setup is this:

server ntp.ucsd.edu
server time.ucsd.edu
server pool.ntp.org
server us.pool.ntp.org
server north-america.pool.ntp.org
server www.clock.org
