Discussion:
Will RR match Cox??

Cox is now offering 'Cox Premier' cable modem service,
speeds are 9Mbps down, and 1Mbps up!

Price is what WE pay for standard RR service, $44.95.

Their standard service is now 4Mbps down, 512Kbps up,
and only $29.95!

I'm calling to cancel my RR Premium
as soon as I send this message.

Cox's Premier package is priced better (and performs better) than RR Premium
Service, but their standard "Preferred" package -- Internet service only --
is $49.95/mo. The $29.95/mo. pricing is the cost when bundled with other
services. Having said that, RR Premium service should either cost less, or
be upgraded with more speed.

Actually, the $29.95 is the 'combo' customer price.
The 4M/512K is $39.95 is you also have cable TV OR Cox VOIP,
$49.95 for only cable internet.

And 'Premier' is $54.95 with TV, the $44.95 is for 'combo' customers.

But that's STILL less that we pay, for better speed.

Hell, I was paying $120 a month JUST for RR and regular cable TV.
On Cox, I could get the 'combo' package; digital cable TV, phone,
AND the Premier cable modem service, and only pay $110!

And RR tries SO hard to push their expensive VOIP,
they even call and leave messages on answering machines.

Morons. If I had ANY reasonable alternative, I'd jump too it ASAP.

I must agree! In the last year TW customer service has gone from OK to just
terrible! I love the bandwidth but am very close to giving it up for better
service!! But? Better service?? Where SBC?? They suck even more! I have
friends with SBC and I must say it is worse.....
IMHO

I know. That shit pisses me off. They left a message at my work because I
refuse to give them my home number. Wonder why I do that? I've told them
repeatedly to never call me or come to my door with solicitations. Somehow
they feel they are not SPAMmers and telemarketters when harrassing us
because they have a legit reason to have our personal information.

RR won't do anything until there's competition, and DSL just ain't it.

I sure wish we had access to FOIA. I've got relatives elsewhere who are
getting much better up and down bandwidth for much less money.

Exactly. We need the government to allow for a free market cuz RR is lovin
it when the government is protecting them from competition.

I screwed up the acronym. I meant FIOS, Verizon's broadband service.

About the same time Cox cable will be available in TW's service area. FIOS
is a product of the Verizon land line carrier not the Verizon mobile
company.

Move to west RB, zip 92127. We can have both/either Cox and TW. I've
got Cox for my basic tv service to get Padres on HD, TW for cable
modem, and Directv for satellite. Thinking of switching to Cox for my
static cable modem acct, but I've had my RR e-mail for over 8 years,
so that's the only thing holding me back.

You're kidding me. An email address? Addressbooks change really fast. I
can guarantee you that no one you know types your email address each time
they want to send you an email. At least I hope that's the case! :-)

I was just trying to mess with you since you can really get going
about all things RR! :)

What I wrote however is accurate. I have many overseas contacts and
they've used that account for years, so I haven't changed it. And I've
never really had any issues with RR for years now, EXCEPT when I'm in
the field and I need to contact their tech support for a client. That
has been really messed up for months now.

I've thought about adding Cox high speed for my personal account just
for the increased speed, but I can't really justify the cost, or
should I say I can't really justify the cost when presenting it to my
wife? It was hard enough convincing her I needed to spend over $100
for a static account, which I really do need.

I hate monopolies that abuse their position. It isn't specific to RR.

Thankfully my wife is a bit more understanding with things like this. She
simply knows that boys needs their toys.

She's really good about that. She also recognizes that I make more than her
and naturally should be able to get more toys. Sometimes she cringes at the
cost of some of my toys but she understands that's what makes a boy a boy.

There's only a service provider choice in the unincorporated area of 92127
(like 4S). The rest of us have only TW to choose from.

Yep, I'm in 4S. I thought it was all over the west side of 15 in this
zip.
