*** Help! I'm getting spam to my Road Runner account! ***
Road Runner wants to stop spam from getting to your inbox. Most of our spam
blocking efforts, however, are reactive in nature, because we believe that
it's important to filter on CONSENT, not CONTENT. In order to accomplish
that goal, we need for our subscribers to tell us that no CONSENT was in
place (hence, unsolicited).
In order to help us block spam, we need you to forward the spam in it's
entirety to us at this address. Please be aware that we require a FULL copy
of the alleged spam, including FULL header information, in order to
accurately identify and block the offender. Unfortunately, if the spam is
more than 3 days old, we must assume that the provider has already taken
action and will not action your report.
If you do not include the entire message, with full header information, we
MUST DISCARD your mail.
**** PLEASE - ONLY ONE SPAM PER EMAIL TO US ****
How to get full headers from your mail program.
Microsoft Outlook 97/98
Open the message you want to forward. Click on View, then Options. Under
Internet Headers, there will be a large amount of text. Highlight the entire
contents of the window and press and hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard,
then press the C key. This copies the text. Close out of this window. When
you are back to the message to be forwarded, press the Forward button. At
the top of the e-mail, paste the copied text in by pressing Ctrl and V.
Address the message as appropriate, compose the rest of the message as you
like, and click the Send button.
Microsoft Outlook 2000
Once you have opened the message you wish to forward, click on the View menu
and select Options. Highlight the contents of the Internet Headers section
at the bottom of this window and hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard, then
press the C key. This copies the text. Close out of this window. When you
are back to the message to be forwarded, press the Forward button. At the
top of the e-mail, paste the copied text in by pressing Ctrl and V. Address
the message as appropriate, compose the rest of the message as you like, and
click the Send button.
Microsoft Outlook Express and Internet Mail
Once you have opened the message you wish to forward, click on the File
menu, then Properties. Click on the Details tab. Here you will see a bunch
of text that probably doesn't make much sense. Highlight the entire contents
of the window and press and hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard, then press
the C key. This copies the text. Close out of this window. When you are back
to the message to be forwarded, press the Forward button. At the top of the
e-mail, paste the copied text in by pressing Ctrl and V. Address the message
as appropriate, compose the rest of the message as you like, and click the
Send button.
Eudora (all versions)
Open the message you want to forward. Press the Show All Headers button (it
is at the top of the window and says BLAH BLAH BLAH). You will now see a
large amount of text. Press the Forward button (or click on the Message
menu, then Forward). Address the message as appropriate, compose the rest of
the message as you like, and click the Send button.
Pegasus Mail
Open the message you want to forward. Click on Reader, then Show All
Headers. Highlight the entire contents of the text that wasn't there before,
press and hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard, then press the C key. This
copies the text. Press the Forward button. This will bring up a window that
asks who you are forwarding the message to and it also has a couple check
boxes. Type in the address of the person you are forwarding to and check
Edit the message before forwarding. At the top of the e-mail, paste the
copied text in by pressing Ctrl and V. Compose the rest of the message as
you like, and click the Send button.

*** Hey! You're blocking mail from <INSERT PROVIDER HERE>! Stop! ***
Sometimes, legitimate mail will get blocked. We *hate* it when that happens,
as our goal is to not impact the transmission of solicited communication.
Sometimes, however, it does occur.
If you believe that your inbound mail is being blocked by our spam filters,
we ask that you please *CONTACT THE SENDER*, have the sender *CONTACT THEIR
ISP*, and have their *ISP CONTACT US* at ***@security.rr.com.
It is extremely important that the sender's ISP contact us as soon as
possible, so that we can address the issue.
Now, you're probably saying to yourself "Why is all of this contacting
so-and-so hoopla necessary?". The reason is simple. Most often, an inbound
block is applied on a given network because of a security-related problem.
Road Runner, in most instances, does NOT block individual users, but rather
those network IP ranges that individual users utilize for their Internet
service. In order to remove that block, we need to make sure that the
NETWORK OWNER (note - we say network, not computer - this is most often the
sender's ISP) is aware of the security problem on their network, and that
the NETWORK OWNER has taken appropriate steps to ensure that the problem has
been corrected.
Again, we don't want to block legitimate solicited communications, but if
there is a security or spam problem on a network that is trying to send to
you, and that provider is unresponsive or unwilling to talk to us about the
problem, then we may have to advise you to temporarily utilize a third party
free mail service to receive your mail, while we continue to sort out the
problem.
___
*** Help! I'm a Road Runner customer, and you're blocking mail I'm trying to
send to <INSERT PROVIDER HERE>! ***
Road Runner does not block outbound mail. If you're having difficulty
sending mail to someone outside Road Runner, it's probably because of a
manual block applied by their ISP, or a third-party block list they are
using. They probably do not intend to block *YOU* specifically, but the end
result is the failure of your mail to get to its intended destination.
If you believe that another ISP is blocking mail from Road Runner, please
forward any bounce messages you are receiving to <***@security.rr.com>.
We will contact the ISP that may be blocking us and attempt to resolve the
situation. Until such time as the block is removed, we would recommend that
you contact your correspondent through the services of a third party free
email service.

Thank you for taking the time to contact Road Runner.
