Either there's a new RR MX server, or they've initiated denying mail
from mail servers that don't reverse lookup in DNS and the error message
is confusing.

First time I've had mail through my colo box bounce to a san.rr.com
QUIT
<<< 554-hrndva-mx-11.mgw.rr.com
<<< 554 #5.5.4 Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed for 69.43.132.54
QUIT
<<< 554-clmboh-mx-03.mgw.rr.com
<<< 554 #5.5.4 Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed for 69.43.132.54
QUIT
<<< 554-hrndva-mx-04.mgw.rr.com

QUIT
<<< 554-orngca-mx-07.mgw.rr.com
<<< 554 #5.5.4 Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed for 69.43.132.54
QUIT
<<< 554-hrndva-mx-14.mgw.rr.com

Erwin,

Did RR start denying mail from any mail server that doesn't have a rDNS
entry now? Hopefully my entry at Castle will kick in shortly... I guess
I'll find out then.

Yup. RR stoped accepting email from servers that have no or incorrect
reverse quite a while back. This is in order to thwart viruses and spammers.

Forgot to come back in here.. :)

Yeah, though you might think about asking them to put a clearer error
message like AOL used. They include the URL
http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/421dnsnr.html in the error which
explains it.. RR's looks like a relay error (or did.. maybe it's updated
now).

Luckily I was able to get my colo box an rDNS entry which made all my
backed up mail finally flow.

Could've been worse.. some places *cough*earthlink*cough* are using size
limiting software that just closes the network socket without any error
message which causes the MTA to continually retry sending mail with
large attachments over and over again. Spiked traffic on my colo box.
Fixed that by changing attachments on my system for my family to links.

RR isn't the only one, I noticed that AOL started doing it this month as
well.
