connectivity troubles at night time?

The past three days our Internet connection is present, but barely useable
but it only happens in the evenings. I can barely hit any major websites
but have no problem hitting friend's servers. At first I suspected DNS
issues and that still could be the issue. But it didn't feel like it. I'm
convinced that I at least have consistent routing to an RR router but after
that I'm not really sure what's the issue. Last night (the third night in a
row of these problems) my wife got fairly pissed trying to use the Internet
and asked again "Can't we get Internet from someone else?" Obviously we
know where that goes...

Has anyone else been struggling with terrible connectivity over the past
couple of days? I still can't put my finger on the issue.

My browsing has been fine, but I have been getting a lot of connectivity
errors with the POP server in the wee hours of the morning (2AM to 6AM).

I noticed that too. I use fetchmail to pull mail from my RR account(s) into
local inboxes. Every morning I get the logs showing connectivity issues in
the same time frame. That isn't a new thing though but seems to be
happening more recently.

Just at a guess, if it's geographically limited, you might have someone
running a game server for their friends or something, and you're just
seeing local saturation or some such?

Interesting thought. It just started but is fairly consistent. Every night
around 7:00pm are Internet is nearly worthless... but not quite. I'll see
if the pattern continues.

If it is something like a local game server or just heavy user in my area,
how would I go about figuring that out?

Actually, it has been the last few weeks and it has been related to DNS
service. I'll update my posting on No DNS Resolution with more detailed
findings.
