It probably means what it says. There is some limit (in tens of
megabytes) to the total size of all email being stored for you. You
have exceeded that limit. Any mail now being sent to you is being
bounced back to the sender.

You need to delete some email.

Why? Excuse my apparent ignorance, but if I click 'send and receive,' and
the mail comes in, it's on my computer, right? Once it's here, who else
knows or cares what I have?

I haven't found this option yet, but I'll take another look.

Well, sunken ditch, I never would have found that! The server box was
unchecked, so at least I can sleep well tonight - thanks! It bugged me to
think that my mail was still "out there" somewhere.

Here's a possible tip: By using the RR Web interface to access your mail
accounts, you can see which mail is stored on the server, as opposed to
stored locally on your computer (it looks like you're using Outlook
Express).

Make sure you have local copies and backups of the mail you want to
keep, then you can clean out the server-stored mail via the Web
interface.

If you don't understand this, maybe you can get RR tech support or a
knowlegable friend to talk you through it.

As an addon to MT's advice. When you delete your mail using the web access
(www.webmail.san.rr.com) you will need to open the trash can and delete it
a second time to remove it from storage. If you don't it will sit in the
trash can and count against your 10 MB limit.

Then change your email settings on your computer so the mail is not
retained on the RR server.

This is not the first time this question has been asked of the rather
cryptic email. Since it is auto generated it would be a simple matter for
RR to make the message more descriptive and even provide the recipient with
some corrective steps.

Well, I just went there, and except for one new message that was there, all
the folders were empty. Good to know for future reference, anyway. I agree
totally that they should give you a little more info in that cryptic email.
I've had RR for eight years, and I've never seen it before.

Thanks, everyone, for your helpful replies. I didn't expect to have such a
"newbie" question after eight years with RR!

One thing not mentioned is that before you get your email, it is
stored on the RR servers.

I got the message the other day. I have received a few over the years.
I get the messages when I receive several high file size attachments.
A couple of megabytes of video sent a few times puts one over the (I
think) 10 Mb limitation, if only for even a few minutes. As soon as
that threshold is passed the automatic message is sent.

And remember: a 2.5 megabyte file attached to an Outlook HTML message
is going to be around 4 megabytes. Add three files together and you
are over your limit.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it does help. I think I know what might have happened. I participate
in a message board/forum that lets you have replies sent to your email. The
replies have been getting stuck at their end a lot lately, so when they
come, it can be a lot all at one time. Combine that with not checking my
email for a couple of days....Oops! I guess the server just needed an email
enema.

I know this may not be an option for you, but you could always create a
Gmail account and use that for your subscription to this particular
distribution list. Gmail provides free POP access so you can fetch it using
Outlook Express at the very same time you are getting your email from Road
Runner. We can help with the configuration if this is interesting to you.
I typically have three different email account going in the same Outlook
Express on every machine I use.

That does sound like a possible solution; I wasn't aware you could do that.
I'll have to look into it. Thanks!
