Well, my point is, doesn't that make this guy an RR customer using a
"foreign" email address? What I'm getting at is that RR has ALL of the
routing information if only RR customers have access to this group. This
guy should be able to be easily busted and RR usage terminated. Right?

I've been using the RR server to access this group. I just checked,
and it is on giganews now.
uh-oh.

It's carried by lots of 'other' servers... I think that was Damian's point
too (he didn't post through RR) ...and to make the point that RR does little
to block unwanted spam in e-mail either.

Was this always the case? I recall a long time ago I could not read posts
in this group unless I was using my cable modem. I even did funny routing
to see if I could get to it while on travel. It must have been the
particular news servers I was trying.

It's kind of dumb to make it public to everyone. My whole point in
responding to this thread is moot now. Too bad, I wish it weren't.

No, I think it only recently changed. It was private for a LONG time. I
agree that it's dumb, and now my email address has probably been harvested
(I only use these RR groups, so didn't need to spamproof it). I hope it's
some technical problem, like a misconfiguration. That has happened in the
past.
