Does my using my preview pain cause me to get more spam in O.E. 6? It seems
like some types just keep getting thru. I have Norton AV 2003 and Zone
Alarm. Not to mention running thru two routers.
Would the RR CA software do a better job?
Thanks,
J.

No. It may get you a virus or trojan easier, but not more spam.

Since neither of those deal with spam and the EZ-Trust Suite can, yes it
would.

Not necessarily true. Some (much?) of the spam now loads graphics from web
sites when opened. The sender tracks who accesses the graphics and uses
that info to direct more spam, knowing they have a live address. The
graphics are usually the first item in the spam so they will be in the
portion in the preview pane.

Unfortunately opening the mail to get to the headers to forward to
spamblock does the same thing, which is why I open the mail only after
disabling the network access.

If you have XP service pack 2, images from emails are not downloaded when
you preview an email, unless you go in and change the setting explicitly.

Opening an email to get headers for forwarding also doesn't require you to
open the email, just highlight the email and press Ctrl+F3-- no images
downloaded.

To forward the headers, just create a new email.

This is not true for OE 6 and has preventable with one change in security
settings for at least five years. However, if you want to confrm that your
preview pane is secure from malicious attachments, make sure the Restricted
Zone is selected in the Virus Protection group on the Security tab of the
Options dialog from the Tools menu.
