Capicity problems in UTC area.

I started having problems with my modem around the end of January.
Everything looked like it was working, all the right lights on the modem
were green or flashing like normal but nothing worked. Names wouldn't
resolve, pages wouldn't load, couldn't check email, etc... I found that
resetting the cable modem and sometimes the cable modem and my router
would temporily resolve the problem.

I called customer service and they sent a tech out to look at it. The
tech said many people in the area were have the same problem and the
cause is the area is over subscribed. He replaced my modem with a newer
model and said there wasn't anything else he could do.

I'm still having the problem. I usually, ~75% of the time, have to
reset the modem when I want to do something on the Internet and it will
frequently stop working while I'm using it. Most the problems seem to
be mornings between 7:00 and 8:00, early to mid evenings and Saturdays.

I've called customer service 3 times now, the first on Feb 24, this past
Tuesday and again today, to complain about the service and asked what
they intend to do. Customer service claims not to know about the problem
and say they have asked field service for more info which they say they
haven't received.

Anyone else in the UTC area having this problem? Edwin, is there a
network problem or should I have another tech come out?

BTW, I was surprised to find that I didn't have to reset the modem
Friday night or Saturday morning. I'm hopeful that something was fixed
or upgraded.

That is a DNS issue, which has nothing to do with capacity, speed., etc...

The truth is out there,

but it's not interesting enough for most people.

It isn't just DNS that stops, even sites that had resolved will stop
working I use Vonage for my phone service and calls have dropped
several times in mid call, well past DNS. When my calls drop, people on
the other end were still able to hear me but I couldn't hear them, like
the inbound stream stopped working.

I thought it was a modem problem when it started. It was the roadrunner
tech that said it was a capacity problem.

Sounds familiar. I solved a similar problem by replacing a router.

I'm in the UTC area and have not experienced that problem.
Sounds like a real bummer... :(

I'm on Genesee a few blocks north of UTC.

This is my third attempt to post to this thread. Does anyone know if
this group is moderated? My previous two tries seemed to go out fine;
they just never showed up.

I live in the UTC area, and the problem you describe happened to me
three times yesterday (Saturday). Happy green lights on the modem each
time.

I said some things about tech support that I guess I won't say this
time.
