I first heard of MySpace here and it is a blocked site for my
daughter. She found MyFreeProxy.com and it is blocked. Now I see
Xanga. What does anyone know about it?

Thanks.

How old is your daughter?

I don't know much about xanga except that I know people who've used it as a
blogging platform. At first look, it doesn't look like it has the same
capability that myspace does, where you could search for 13-year old girls
in a particular zipcode that go to a particular school.

BTW, are you blocking myfreeproxy by name or by IP address? I see that
mfp.hostwindsor.com points to it too.

Here's some more free proxies for you to block:

http://hidemyass.com
https://proxify.com/
http://projectbypass.com/
http://www.proxymouse.com/
http://letsproxy.com
http://www.the-cloak.com/login.html

Then there's the sites that compile lists of free anonymous proxies where
the lists change minute by minute, if she's savvy enough to know how to use
those.

Good luck.

Ha Ha, nice try. I'm not telling you becuase this is a public forum.
It's why I don't use my real name. I liked the name Konrad Beezo
because it sounded interesting. It is a character from a Dean Koontz
novel called "Life Expectancy". I highly recommend it. It is very
funny. I had trouble putting it down.

Anyway, she is almost old enough to drive.

I was just trying to get an idea. I'll give you something else to consider,
if you haven't already.

We have a couple of girls in our neighborhood around the same age, and
almost everyone here has a wireless router, when I look I see at least 5
wireless networks that I could connect to, and at least 2 of those don't use
any encryption protocol.

One of our neighbors caught her and her friend connected to a site that he
didn't consider appropriate for girls under the age of consent and he also
installed some controls.

So she connected to a neighbor's unsecured wireless network and got around
it that way.

You can always browse her cache. If there's nothing there, that would be
worrisome.

Here's some more things:

http://software4parents.com/
http://spectorsoft.com/

It's a fine line that parents walk between legitimate efforts to protect our
kids and invading their privacy.

Personally, I wouldn't snoop unless I already had reason to suspect a
problem. I would consider deliberate efforts on their part to conceal their
actions a symptom of a problem.

Unfortunately, the internet has made it far easier for child predators to
find kids. I saw part of a segment on Dateline where this volunteer group
sends adults out to enter chatrooms and pose as kids. They don't solicit
anything, but if a predator approaches, they post the transcripts to a
website. Dateline set up a house where these volunteers arranged for the
creeps to meet what they believed were underage girls/boys.

The creeps who showed up at the house were filmed and were on Dateline. One
guy showed up nude with a 12-pack, to meet with what he believed was a
13-year old boy or girl, I forget which.

One of the pedophiles was a pediatrician, one was a special ed teacher,
another one was a rabbi.

The second part of that Dateline report is tomorrow night:
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/9878187/

and this is the group that entrapped the pedophiles. Apparently since
they're civilian volunteers, the entrapment laws don't apply to them.
