Discussion:
Only 1 DNS server?

I experienced some interruptions in RR service Friday evening, 11/19/2005
(Serra Mesa). I checked the status page of the Linksys router and of course
all the entries were blank. When things did get cooking again, I noticed
only 1 DNS server address showing, namely 66.75.164.90.

My notes from when we began service in 2001 showed 2 DNS servers and I'm
sure that I have seen 3 at one time. What up with DNS? Should I be seeing
only 1?

They just recently made a change to the DNS servers. I don't completely
understand how it's working technically but I think what you're seeing isn't
necessary incorrect. Hopefully Edwin will jump in and explain the details.

66.75.164.90. That should be the "front" IP that doesn't
change. The DNS servers in back of it will come and go, the idea
being that we won't have to keep changing IP's.
Right now, a "dig" shows the following DNS's for us:
66.75.164.90 dns-lb.orange.rr.com
66.75.160.39 dns-pri-01.orange.rr.com
66.75.160.38 dns-sec-01.orange.rr.com

This post, from another newsgroup, it only about 6 months old,
and should help aware RR users...
